Mt Morgan early Gold history Gold was found in alluvial in Mt Morgan in 1865 when it was an extension of Pastoral leases in the Rockhampton central Queensland area. Gold was being fossicked in lots of areas around Rockhampton from Canoona in the north to Crocodile Creek west and Carwal east. William Mackinlay is said to have discovered Mt Morgan around 1870, a John Gordon took charge of a 640 acre block which consisted on the now Mt Morgan area as a grazier he knew nothing on it's value in gold. Graziers were looking for good grassed areas along the Dee river.  The Morgan Brothers were brought to Mt Morgan by Sandy Gordon the wife of John in 1882 .  https://www.mountmorgan.org.au/History/The-Discovery-of-Mount-Morgan http://bonzle.com.au/c/a?a=pic&fn=zfb2ea2g&s=3
